Both Truro and Provincetown Fire / EMS Departments suffered a loss on Friday August 7, 2020 when a retired Firefighter and Paramedic of both departments died in a freak accident when the lawn mower he was riding rolled over at the St. Peters Cemetery in Provincetown. Captain Richard Sargent retired on Nov 27, 2020 after some 37 years of service as a Firefighter / Paramedic, Senior Private, Lieutenant, and Captain for the past 10 years. Fire Chief Mark Dellner announced his plan to retire at the end of March 2021.

Retired Bourne Firefighter Bertrand "Bert" Jones, age 80 passed away on Nov 11, 2022. Retired Fire Chief Douglas Mills, age 84, passed away on November 26, 2022. He joined the Lakeville FD as a call firefighter in 1954, working his way up to Deputy Chief and then Fire Chief from 1979 to 1996. His son Matthew Mills went on to serve with Lakeville and Hyannis Fire Depts. Retired Fire Chief Roger Hamilton, age 79, was a member of the LFD from 1961 to 1990, serving on the Board of Engineers from 1980 to 1988.

Among those is our nearby Abraham Lincoln Memorial Cemetery down the road in Elwood. Aside from the extraordinary value of the burial expenses , the honors provided ensure both memories and Memorial. Nothing may be as moving or comforting as a family receiving the US Flag from a Serviceperson in their formal uniform, stating "On Behalf of the President of the United States and a Grateful Nation, we thank your loved one for their Service to our nation". It moves you every time, because there is no more generous service that can be performed.

He is a Barnstable home town person who has worked for the Concord NH Fire Department for many years, rising through the ranks and serving the last 2 years as Fire Chief in Concord. Former Falmouth Fire Chief Mike Small has been serving as interim Chief in Cotuit since Jan 1, 2022, following the retirement of Cotuit Chief Paul Rhude who retired Dec 31, 2021 after serving as Chief since 2017.
